BREAST CANCER
Breast Cancer Strategies
Surviving cancer is a difficult trial requiring incredible strength and courage. Radiation, chemotherapy and surgery, while in many cases the keys to successful treatment, leave the body drained and have a significant impact on quality of life.
A cancer survivor does not need to 'tough it out', living with common side effects such as dry skin and hair, diarrhea, abdominal pain, difficulty digesting food, recurrent bladder infections, and other opportunistic infections. Side effects of cancer treatment can be diminished so that you not only survive cancer, but re-gain the level of health enjoyed before the disease and protect from it ever happening again.
The reasons Dr. Galloway can be an important part of your team include:
- She is a complementary and alternative medicine specialist and can sort through what is "hopeful thinking" and what natural techniques have real value for your specific case.
- The whole goal of Naturopathic Medicine is to assist people in optimizing their health, not in treating disease. Your oncologist has direct and deadly treatments to really knock out the cancer, but who is working to build your immune system, strengthen your ability to absorb nutrients needed for the cancer fight, and helping you sleep better so you don't make your stress levels worse?
- Did you know that CAM protocols can:
- reduce side effects of chemo/radiation?
- enable you to tolerate standard treatments more easily?
- improve the efficacy of your chemo/radiation?
- Naturopathic Physicians are doctors that listen. I take the time to look fully at your case and help you develop a game plan as you go through this complex and often scary journey toward wellness.
- I encourage integrative medicine and I want to work with you and your whole oncological team-- surgeon, medical oncologist and radiation oncologist--so everyone knows what your additional protocols will be. I can talk the language your doctors talk having studied the principles of conventional as well as natural medicine at Bastyr University. Having everyone on the same page, sharing information and working together is the ideal.
We will start with the Establishing Care package (two initial visits), and will have follow-ups as needed.
